  SCIENCE

I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.
The science curriculum at The British Co-Ed High School provides the best possible
science education for all students following the ICSE curriculum.
Key skill areas we focus on are:
Deduction and induction based on analysis.
The ability to connect various aspects of science together.
Self-study and the ability to carry out independent experiments and investigations.

In year 5 the topics covered are a mixture of Physics, Chemistry & Biology. More emphasis is given to observation, especially of the natural world and various activities through which students develop a conceptual understanding of the subject. Topics covered are food, matter, the world of the living, force, work, energy and natural phenomena.
Year 6 onwards the science programme consists of definitive experiments and projects along with theory in three basic science subjects - physics, chemistry and biology, keeping in mind the ICSE curriculum
In year 6 topics covered are:
Physics: measurement, force, simple machines and magnetism
Chemistry: nature of matter, pure and mixed substances, water, air as well as the changes around us
Biology: soil formation, life on earth, our environment, health & hygiene, plant life
In year 7 topics covered are:
Physics: force, sound, heat, light, spherical mirrors & electricity
Chemistry: elements and compounds, air and its constituents, acids, bases and salts as well as chemistry in your life
Biology: organization in living things, life under a microscope, animal & plant movement, nutrition, life process.
In year 8 topics covered are:
Physics: the universe, light, heat, magnetism & electricity
Chemistry: structure of the atom, transformation of substances, hydrogen, carbon and its compounds, metals and non-metals
Biology: pollution, food production & management, health and hygiene, transport of food and minerals.
A science exhibition is held annually where students display their project work as static and working models.
Year 5-students are assessed on the basis of practical activities, spot test and worksheets round the year
Year 6 -8 Practical Viva voce, worksheets and quarterly assessment.
Year 9 & 10 the topics covered are as per ICSE curriculum.
