SPORTS

“Physical Fitness is the first requisite of happiness”

– Joseph Pilates

Sport is an integral part of our school curriculum as both physical and mental well being are the prerequisites of wellness/strength in a student’s life. It imparts a sense of discipline, fellowship and togetherness.

Sports and training facilities at the school include athletics, cross country, badminton, volleyball, basketball, kho-kho, cricket, football, hockey and table tennis. We take pride in our sports’ talents and provide all necessary facilities for good training and enabling future potential. Special ad hoc instructors are present to teach and guide the children in developing their talents.

ARTS

THE PERFORMING ARTS

“The World is a complicated place and there’s a lot of division between people. The performing arts tend to unify people in a way nothing else does.” – David Rubenstein (Philanthropist)

Students are encouraged to take part in the dramatic arts ranging from one act plays to street plays (social activism) and shortened classics, in all 3 languages English, Hindi, Punjabi. The dramatic arts provide not only a platform to express oneself as students create and direct in many instances but also a means of developing artistic and interpersonal skills.

MUSIC

Music is a universal language that enables us to express a whole range of emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, and harmony. Music periods at school hold a special place in the students’ heart. It gives them the much needed relaxation from their gruelling subjects.

The School Orchestra and Choir are an indispensable part of our school. Our choir and our budding musicians are indeed a force to reckon with. The music room is always buzzing with activities pertaining to the important upcoming school events. Classical instruments such as Tabla, harmonium, flute, violin, sitar, tambourine, harmonica to western drums, guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, Cajon are some of the prized possessions of our orchestra. The monochromatic uniform dress code of our school band makes our young artists look debonair.

NATIONAL CADET CORPS (NCC)

NCC is an organization, which is regulated under the Ministry of Defence; it acts as a platform to provide the basic, military training that inculcates the feeling of comradeship, courage, honesty and in a above all patriotism. The motto of NCC is Unity and Discipline. The NCC came into being in 1948 with a view to impart the rudimentary skills: training in drill, elementary map reading, physical strength and toughness. Both the Army and the Air force NCC wing training are held.

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)

The students of our school are actively involved in various prestigious national organisations and awards. The National Service Scheme (NSS) being one of them. The NSS activities are carried out by the students of grade XI and XII in the adopted village, Jawalapur. Activities related to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan along with organizing Tree Plantation Drives in the adopted village are regularly held. The students brought up the need of conserving water by showing the villagers videos related to water depletion and also about how we can conserve water resources. The NSS workers also conducted a medical survey along with celebrating ‘Yoga Day’ in order to bring out awareness the importance / value of yoga in our lives. The theme of ‘Road Safety’ was also emphasized as reflectors were pasted on heavy vehicles. The NSS volunteers acts raised funds for the flood victims of Kerala. These activities carried out by the students leave a strong impact on the lives of people and make lives better for people in the village and society at large.

SOCIAL AWARENESS PROGRAMME

“Not all of us can do great things but we all can do small things with great love.” – Mother Teresa

Social awareness Programs form an integral part of our school curriculum. As all actions begin with a desire, our young Samaritans can be spotted doing various socially productive work from holding health and hygiene workshops to organizing cleanliness drive in the nearby villages and slums. Every year our students carry out social activities in order to create awareness about vital issues such as hygiene matters, tree plantation drive, educating underprivileged children, visits to Special Students School, helping community students, etc.

SCHOOL ENTERPRISES

School Enterprises Challanges

The School Enterprise Challenge is a global competition aimed at creating groups of globally aware, socially responsible young entrepreneurs.

The School Enterprise Challenge project “The Tiffin Box” has been running for 8 years and comprises of a team of 150 students working under different departments, namely, kitchen, purchase, quality control, marketing, accounts, IT, selling and market research. This initiative has helped students learn how to run an enterprise along with building strong leadership and cooperation skills. The profit earned from the enterprise is used for the under-privileged girls of The Alicia Jones Community School which is an afternoon school run in our school campus.

After all, as Nelson Mandela once said “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead”

GREEN SCHOOL

“We share the earth not only with our fellow human beings, but with all the other creatures.” – Dalai Lama

Green School practice inculcates environmental sensitivity and promotes environmental sustainability through various environment-friendly means that encourage judicious use of resources.

Our school is conscious of the natural environment and resources, and the criticality of managing them sustainably.

Energy: In 2015, the school installed 10 kiloWatts (kW) of solar power, which increased its cumulative solar capacity to 30kW. The school now draws almost 40 per cent of its power from solar energy

Water: The school has constructed recharge trenches to collect water from paved areas; and plans to construct its own elaborate rainwater harvesting structure.

Air: 90 per cent of the school population commutes by school buses and shared cabs.

Green cover: More than 70 per cent of the school area is under green cover. The tree plantation activity is a regular feature at our school.

The Swatch Bharat Campaign : Our school actively participates in Cleanliness Drives and educating society and our local community about various health and hygiene issues.
